Another Perspective on What Color Is the Dress

Strategic Revolution The Dress

This past Thursday my Facebook and Twitter, as I’m sure all of yours did, exploded with people going back and forth with, “It’s white and gold” no “It’s Blue and Black”. I finally pulled open one of my friend’s post who posted the picture and said, “What color is this dress? I see Black and Blue.” Immediately I saw Black and Blue and I could not figure out how people were seeing it any other color. I asked my husband and he saw white and gold. We spent more time then necessary debating on the color of this dress. As I got to work the next day this dress talk seemed to be the thing everyone was obsessing about. I took it upon myself to ask around to see if I could see what more people saw. The results I found were impressive; I thought I had figured it all out. (from WIRED)

I asked about 30 people and 15 of those 30 who had blue or green eyes saw blue and black, the other 15 who had brown or hazel eyes saw white and gold. I totally thought it had to do with eye color but someone on my team who has brown eyes came in and saw blue and black, they ruined it all for me. For awhile there I was proud of myself but as the day went on people started coming up with their own theories. I heard that if you saw blue and black you were depressed or you had bad stuff going on in your life, whereas white and gold meant you were open-minded and free and nothing ever bothered you. If that’s the case I wish I saw white and gold, I would be concerned for my life if that’s really what seeing blue and black stood for. I was starting to go crazy reading all the different posts about it and then it hit me.

This doesn’t have to do with science or a theory, all it comes down to is social media! Let’s be honest, at the end of the day nobody really cares about the color of this dress but we are so wired into social media that this debacle spread like wildfire. We all became obsessed about something because we wanted to be a part of it. Whether you think it’s stupid or not you know that every single person wanted to know what color they saw. For a whole day and maybe even the whole weekend people weren’t talking about the bad things that are happening in the world or worrying about the cold and snow, we all were talking about a hideous black and blue dress, which by the way is the actual color of the dress. I think things like this make us all sit back and realize how obsessive we can be about things and how unnecessary it really is.
