How to Leverage Employee Social Media

My current position is on the social media team, it is a requirement to be on Facebook and Twitter since those are the primary social media sites we work with. Prior to this position I still liked and followed my company because I think it is important that you like where you work, this shows involvement in your company. I think businesses should encourage their employees to be on social media. Who better to represent your company then people who actually work for you? If you are curious about how to get your team to follow you, here are a few tips.

How to Leverage Employee Social Media

For me, working the social media team, we do not use our personal pages, we use the company logo and we address complaints and tech issues. It is not necessarily to up the company from a personal level. The way a company can grow is to have employees use their personal page or try creating a “Social Media Content” board on Pinterest (make it secret & only invite your employees). This is where employees can post questions, images and anything else they want regarding the company. Remember though that you don’t want your employees to sound like robots when they are promoting your company.  It is important that employees “buy into” your employee advocacy program, don’t pressure them to make comments or share content on their own page. Promote transparency & organic sharing in their own voice, it will sound much more natural.

The team I worked with constantly uploaded photos from these events and posted them to our company’s social media platforms so people could see how much fun we were having. I believe that customers feel comfortable or at ease when they see how involved employees can be. I know not all companies send employees out to represent their company but I do know that a lot do trainings or team building. Employees can use these outings to take photos and post them to their wall as if they were having out with a bunch of friends.

It is beneficial that your employees know that their comments, post & images are making an impact. The more involved you are with your employees the more involved they will want to be with the company.
