The tweeters of today all utilize twitter in a similar fashion so take a minute and look at it from the other perspective. When someone follows you, what do you do? You usually open their profile and check it out and decide whether or not you want to follow them back. Let’s look at a few common that strongly influence ones decision in giving you the reciprocal twitter follow.
No Profile Pic or Bio? This is all but shouting it from the proverbial rooftop that you are a twitter n00b. Headshots are usually the best but if you don’t want to reveal your face, a logo or graphic is a good way to go! People usally need a bit more to go on than a picture so be sure to update your bio so that people know more about you and what you will be tweeting about.
Protected Tweets? Because twitter allows you to protect your tweets, that means your twitter feed is only available to those whom you have accepted their follower requests. If I see an account with protected tweets, I am not even going to try to send you a notification requesting your account. Don’t be a closed book, if you are then WHY are you on twitter again?
Tweeting Too Little or Too Much can be one of the worse things you can do to turn off potential followers or even have your current followers unfollow you. Before someone follows you they will check out your account to see what you are talking about. If you are barely posting then they have no reason to give you a follow back as you won’t contribute anything to their news feed. On the other hand, if you are doing nothing but tweeting day and night, I don’t really want to follow you either. I just found out about you, why you are flooding my feed?
Posting Engaging Worthwhile Content is the best way to interact with your potential audience. When was the last time some fit girl followed you and you checked her stream and it was only to tell you about how she lost 15 lbs in 15 days on this new diet pill. Would you want to follow her? I am guessing not. People will only follow you if you are interesting, and can contribute something interesting to their twitterlives.
People want to know they are following a person not a company. They want to interact with a human, not a computer. If you want to get on twitter just to spam, then this article is not for you. If you want to engage and interact with your potential consumers or fans, then take these few simple pieces of advise and run with it, it is no doubt a winning combination.
